Terms of Service

Last updated: May 2026

Welcome to Candle Care. By using our platform, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully.

1. About Candle Care

Candle Care is a technology platform that connects families seeking elder care with independent caregivers and caregiver agencies in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. Candle Care is not a home care agency and does not employ caregivers directly.

2. For Families

  • You must be 18 or older to create a family account
  • You are responsible for providing accurate information about care needs
  • Candle Care charges a 10% platform fee per booking, shown upfront before you confirm
  • There are no membership fees — you only pay when you book
  • Cancellations made more than 2 hours before a shift are fully refunded
  • Candle Care is a platform, not a licensed home care agency. You are responsible for supervising and communicating with your caregiver

3. For Caregivers

  • You must pass a background check to be listed on Candle Care
  • You are an independent contractor, not an employee of Candle Care
  • You are responsible for the accuracy of your credentials and certifications
  • Falsifying credentials will result in immediate permanent removal and may result in legal action
  • You must maintain a minimum 4.0★ rating to remain active on the platform
  • Basic Plan: $29/month for up to 10 bookings. Pro Plan: $49/month for unlimited bookings
  • Payouts are processed within 2 business days via Stripe after shift completion

4. Platform Fee

Candle Care charges families a 10% platform fee on each booking. This fee covers payment processing, platform maintenance, customer support, and insurance. This fee is shown clearly before you confirm any booking.

5. Background Checks & Credential Verification

All caregivers undergo a criminal background check via Checkr. CNA licenses are verified via the Texas TULIP portal. RN and LPN licenses are verified via the Texas Board of Nursing. NP licenses are verified via the Texas Medical Board. Candle Care also checks the Texas Employee Misconduct Registry (EMR) for all applicants. Verification reduces but does not eliminate all risk.

6. Liability

Candle Care provides a platform to connect families and caregivers. We are not responsible for the actions of caregivers or families. Caregivers are independent contractors. We strongly recommend families maintain appropriate home insurance and communicate clearly about care needs.

7. Prohibited Conduct

  • Providing false information during signup or verification
  • Arranging bookings outside the platform to avoid fees
  • Harassment, discrimination, or abuse of any platform user
  • Sharing another user's personal information without consent

8. Termination

Candle Care may suspend or terminate any account that violates these terms, maintains consistently low ratings, or engages in fraudulent activity.

9. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Texas. Any disputes will be resolved in Dallas County, Texas.
